Announcements:

1.  OTIC kick-off meetings will be Nov 11 and Jan 13.  Clem Furlong and the UW crew will be here both days.  Laurie Connell and Greg Doucette will come in Jan.  Annette handling travel/lodging arrangements.

2.  Quick review of where to charge hours.  Most work is now going on .00 sub-projects, except for occasional things Doug P is doing.  Email went out detailing who charges what.  If you weren't notified and you need to charge SURF Center, time goes on 900915 or 900913.  Check with Jim.

Issues:

• John R brought the LISST for show-and-tell, and discuss mounting options on one of the surface moorings (bight or shadow) during BIOSPACE.  Looks like it will fit in the ISUS position with relatively little modifcation.  Doug to get diameter before John sends back for calibration, John to get in-water weight and collect battery housing.

• Strain Relief.  The strain relief on the can end of drifter appears to have failed.  It again appears to be a manufacturing flaw.  Scott thinks it will make it through tomorrow's deployment, but should be replaced before CANON cruise.  Jim will check with Dale/Scholfield whether there is time to reterminate before CANON.  We will use the recently rec'd new strain relief and again send this one back.

• Brent rec'd the 8MB board from McLane, and the 16MB they had ordered and shipped here.  He quickly ascertained the problem and notified Ivory, who is on vacation until next week.  This episode has Brent believing he needs better access to their network; things can be fixed from here, instead of fed-exing back and forth.

• New camera testing.  Images look good, but anything coarser than 2x2 binning will show a pixel shift, due possibly to our slow processor.  Chris P and Roman said 4x4 binning no longer used, so this is moot point.  Brent will do a cold test, but this new camera (Starlight model 'R') is looking good.

• Pressure issues:  Thanks to work of chris P., we have settled on pressures that 'work':  55 psi for SH1, 40 psi for WCR.   All machines will be changed to these, and Doug is looking at the availability of springs that, instead of being 2x current strength, may be only 1.3-1.4x.  Increasing spring strength has consquences of ball screw selection and connection to the motor.  All permutations being evaluated.  We need to get this info to McLane as soon as we see how stiffer springs function.

• Cheri's computers.  Will back-up her desktop harddrive, then use that machine as a replacement for Bufflehead.  Her laptop (with Solidworks) will remain in lab (probably with Roman).

• MARS wet-mate connector being worked on.  Scott thinks 10' section is long enough; will discuss with ROV pilots before formally placing order.

Machines

Bruce

Tina's assays were not working.  Roman ran several from 2008; they worked perfectly.  thought was something in the filter media could be causing issue.  But then Roman ran more of Tina's this morning and it worked.  We will continue to run Bruce up until BioSPACE to ascertain the problem.

Mack

Mack is working.  Connector on PSV seems no longer flakey, and with the lowered puck pressures and recalibrated pressure sensors, we are ready to can today, mounting on Drifter tomorrow AM.  Roman taking out tomorrow for 3rd test.

MOE

Ready for running.  MOE should get the very latest software, which was a check to keep heaters from heating to temperatures that could never be reached.

NEO

currently in water at M0. will get latest firmware when recovered (Aug 30)

Must decide what Science wants to do with NEO.  Will there be a pier deployment in Oct/Nov, and do we rid NEO of the tombstone and replace with an MFB and the attendant firmware upgrades, so all cores will be running the same thing?  Discuss this at next Tuesday's science mtg.
